Golden Temple with Wagah Border
Day 1: Arrival in Amritsar + Visit to Golden Temple & Local Sights

Arrive in Amritsar by morning or early afternoon to make the most of your day. After checking in at your hotel and freshening up, begin your spiritual journey with a visit to the Golden Temple, the heart of Amritsar and a major symbol of peace and devotion. Experience the serene atmosphere, take a walk around the holy sarovar (pool), and don’t miss the Langar – a free community meal served to thousands every day, regardless of caste or religion. Afterward, visit the nearby Jallianwala Bagh, a historical site that stands in memory of the 1919 massacre. The bullet marks and the eternal flame here tell a powerful story of sacrifice. If time permits, you can also explore the Partition Museum, located just a few minutes away. This museum showcases stories, letters, and artefacts related to the India-Pakistan partition, offering deep insight into the emotional and historical context of that period. In the evening, return to the Golden Temple to see it beautifully lit up at night – the reflection on the water is truly mesmerizing.
Day 2: Wagah Border Ceremony + Local Shopping & Departure
Start your day with a traditional breakfast and then explore some local markets like Hall Bazaar, Katra Jaimal Singh, or Lahori Gate Market. These are great places to shop for souvenirs such as Phulkari embroidery, Punjabi juttis, spices, and handcrafted items. By early afternoon, head to the Wagah Border, which is about 30 km (1 hour) from Amritsar. Reach there by around 3:00 PM to get good seats for the Beating Retreat Ceremony, a dramatic and patriotic performance that starts around 4:30 PM (timings may vary slightly with seasons). Watch Indian and Pakistani soldiers engage in a coordinated parade, accompanied by energetic cheers from the crowd. The entire experience is filled with national pride and is a must-see. After the ceremony, drive back to Amritsar. You can enjoy dinner at one of the city’s iconic restaurants like Kesar Da Dhaba, Bharawan Da Dhaba, or Brothers Dhaba to savour authentic vegetarian Punjabi cuisine. Finally, proceed to your hotel or directly to the airport/train station for departure, depending on your travel plans.
